IMPACT Justice Mediation Legislation Committee Meets to discuss Model Mediation Bill drafted by IMPACT Justice

The IMPACT Justice Mediation Legislation Committee held its second meeting to discuss the Model Mediation Bill drafted by IMPACT Justice in Barbados on January 11, 2016.   The meeting was attended by six Committee members (4 female, 2 male), along with the IMPACT Justice Project Director and the Consultant Legislative Drafter. The Committee comprises a Supreme Court Registrar; a Mediator; a consultant Legislative Drafter and representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, the Dispute Resolution Foundation, Jamaica, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission and the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.

Committee members reviewed the amendments to the Model Mediation Bill which were made at the first Committee meeting held on December 17th, 2015 and made recommendations. The meeting was very well received by Committee members who all shared the view that the objectives of the meeting were clearly defined; they all reported that they had adequate opportunity to ask questions and make comments; they all agreed that there was shared decision-making at the meeting and they all were satisfied with the next steps to be taken at the end of the meeting.
