Twenty-five police officers of varying ranks received training as community mediators under the Canadian Government-funded, Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean (IMPACT Justice) Project.

The 40-hour workshop, took place from September 26th – 30th, 2016, at the Fort Young Hotel, Roseau, Dominica,  and falls under IMPACT Justice’s broader alternative dispute resolution (ADR) component. The goal is to build the capacity for community mediation services in 13 CARICOM Member States in an effort to reduce the burden on the courts.  While IMPACT Justice has already conducted community mediation training in Dominica, this is the first time police officers there are being trained under this initiative.

Since the project’s commencement in April, 2014, IMPACT Justice has facilitated mediation training in Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
