In a bid to increase the local cadre of community mediators in Barbados, the Canadian-funded IMPACT Justice provided training in community mediation to 21 persons (7 males and 14 females) from August 17 – 21, 2015, in Barbados. Participants comprised Justices of the Peace, social workers, welfare and probation officers and community activists and leaders.
The session was opened by Prof. Velma Newton, IMPACT Justice Regional Project Director, who gave an overview of IMPACT Justice. The training was facilitated by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the UWI St. Augustine Campus.
The 5-day syllabus comprised a mixture of theory and practice and included written exercises, role plays, simulation exercises and critiquing of video clips.
