IMPACT Justice was invited to participate in an Arbitration Conference hosted by the Bahamas Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). The conference was one of the activities held in commemoration of the branch’s centenary and was held at the Melia Nassau Beach Resort on November 12th and 13th.
Mr. John Bassie, the Chief Executive Officer of the Dispute Resolution Foundation, Jamaica, and member of the IMPACT Justice Arbitration Legislation Committee, represented IMPACT Justice at the conference and delivered a presentation entitled, “ADR in our Region”.
In his presentation, Mr. Bassie highlighted the IMPACT Justice Project and the work that the Project is doing to strengthen legal frameworks in the region and to promote the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution methods. He also referred to the work of the Dispute Resolution Foundation and CIArb as ADR service providers and trainers.
Mr. Bassie told participants of the marketability of ADR services domestically and its export potential and further advised that if we improved ADR frameworks, the region could then be known for more than “our exceptional brand of hospitality; our fantastic sports men and women; our exquisite cuisine; our beautiful women; our enchanting rhythms; and our phenomenal blend of cultures,” but also for “our success in resolving disputes”.
