IMPACT Justice Partnered with the Judicial Education Institute to Sponsor First Ever Comprehensive Training of Judicial Officers of the Eastern Caribbean

In July 2015, the Canadian-funded IMPACT Justice Project partnered with the Judicial Education Institute (JEI) of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court to sponsor the first ever comprehensive training of Judicial Officers of the Eastern Caribbean.

The training focused on the topics “The Criminal Trial” and “Criminal Practice and Procedure”.

While IMPACT Justice was the major sponsor, assistance was also provided by UNICEF, the Governments of St. Kitts and Nevis, St.  Lucia and the United Kingdom.

Opening Addresses were delivered by the Hon. Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Her Ladyship Hon. Dame Janice Pereira, Chief Justice of the ECSC, Her Ladyship Hon. Justice Louise Blenman, Chair of the Judicial Education Institute of the ECSC, and by Prof. Eddy Ventose who read a speech prepared by Prof. Velma Newton, Regional Project Director, on behalf of the IMPACT Justice Project.

The Conference was attended by all the judges of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court from the nine Member States and British Overseas Territories served by the Court. Altogether 58 persons (43 females and 18 males) attended.
