The Canadian-funded project Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean (IMPACT Justice), in association with the Labour Department of the Ministry of Labour and Social Partnership Relations of Barbados, officially launched two brochures on October 26th, 2018, to assist employers in Barbados in complying with the provisions of the Employment Sexual Harassment (Prevention) Act, 2017.
The first is a general information brochure entitled “Sexual Harassment in the Workplace: What You Should Know”. The second is a Model Workplace Policy Statement Against Sexual Harassment.
The Launch, which was held at the 3Ws Pavilion, The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, was attended by specially invited representatives from the public and private sectors, workers’ unions, academia, civil society, as well as staff from IMPACT Justice and the Labour Department.
Remarks were delivered by Professor Velma Newton, Regional Project Director of the IMPACT Justice Project; Ms. Agnes Pust, Counsellor (Political) of the High Commission of Canada to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean; the Honourable Colin E. Jordan, M.P., Minister of Labour and Social Partnership Relations; and Mr. Victor Felix, Chief Labour Officer of the Labour Department. IMPACT Justice Project Officer, Miss Charleen Walkes, made a presentation which provided an overview of the two documents.
