UWI FACULTY OF LAW LIBRARY STAFF TRAINED TO USE WILIP ONLINE

Print Friendly

The UWI Cave Hill Campus Faculty of Law Library is one step closer to launching an online database of its Consolidated Indexes of Statutes and Subsidiary Legislation produced under the West Indies Legislative Indexing Project (WILIP) thanks to the Canadian-funded IMPACT Justice Project.

WILIP indexes show the laws passed annually in each of the CARICOM Member States (except Suriname) and highlight whether these laws are new, are amendments to existing laws, or whether they repeal and replace existing laws. Currently, the indexes are only available in print. However, under its legal databases component, IMPACT Justice is facilitating the development of WILIP Online, which will make these indexes more widely accessible and will allow for more efficient use.

On July 18th and 19th, 2016, staff members received training in the use of the WILIP Online database. The areas covered included management of the database, word formatting, and use of the public and administrative interfaces. The training was conducted by Ms. Emma Elliott of Lexum, the company which created the database, and is one of the final steps before WILIP Online is launched.

It is expected that WILIP Online will be an invaluable tool for lawyers, judges, academics, researchers, policy makers and students, both in and outside of the region.
